Wireless Site Uplinks

Whether it’s 5 meters or 5 miles, not being able to lay a network cable can cost a lot of money. A 10Mbit leased line from an ISP to link two buildings across a road can easily cost £500 / month and still give you a link that’s 100 times slower than the rest of your network.

Additionally, installing a standard wireless adapter can lead to poor performance as they are prone to congestion and not something most businesses want to rely on. That’s why we install the best wireless devices that out-perform consumer devices in every respect giving your business a stable and cost-effective means of linking two sites together.

What do you get with our Wireless Site Uplinks?

Connecting People via Wireless Site UplinksWe will supply, configure and install your wireless link for you. The wireless link operates at an extremely low latency (often sub 4ms) and has excellent availability. Assuming there are no awkward areas to reach, a pair of our engineers can install the wireless link, configure it and demonstrate your new fast connection all within a day. The units really do act like you’ve just laid a fast Ethernet cable and from the moment they’re installed you can start pushing high volumes of network traffic through them.

Our engineers are well acquainted with routing principals so if you’re connecting sites with two different subnets, they can assist you in configuring the networks in the most efficient manner.

If required, we can also run cables from your roof to your patch cabinet and if necessary, can organise plant hire if access to a suitable mounting point isn’t available. Please mention these when ordering so we can organise everything accordingly.

Wireless Security

The wireless devices that Opus install use the same advanced encryption you’ve seen in the latest consumer units. With WPA2 all the data transmitted across the wireless link is encrypted and secure. Additional features such as MAC address filtering and SSID hiding give that extra bit of protection.

Throughput Speeds

As with most wireless, the speeds that you can get from your wireless device depend on distance however as a rule, most of the equipment Opus installs can get full speed up to a distance of around 2km. Most of the devices have a combined throughput of up to around 200Mbps and the latency on the devices is around 2ms.

Central Management

Once installed and up and running, Opus can connect the device to their central monitoring systems. From there the throughput, status, signal strength and any alerts can be monitored.

If you’re one of our support customers then we can manage all the on-going diagnostics for you. If you’re not a support customer then we can provide you the login details for the devices and you can see all the statistics yourselves.
